Drew Charlson Wins Again At Mt. Lawn Speedway! Gets Spun At Anderson PDF Print E-mail

New Castle, Indiana July 16, 2008
Drew continued his winning ways at the New Castle, Indiana Mount Lawn Speedway "Open Wheel Extravaganza" presented by The Richard Petty Driving Experience.  Drew was again on top of the speed charts in hot laps and didn’t waste any time putting it to good use in the heat race where he started third and took home an easy win.

Again starting from the third position in the feature with an invert of four Drew wasted no time putting the Aluma Trailers, Century 21 Master Key Realty, Mid America Properties, Amsoil Yamaha Kenyon Midget into second place, then took a few careful laps to size up the #84 Grant Galloway and put a clean pass on him for the lead on lap seven.

A couple of restarts were no problem for Drew as he pulled away each time to take the checkered flag with a few car lengths to spare over Grant Galloway and second place points Caleb Armstrong.  This opened up Drew’s points lead to 12 over the #7 Armstong Kenyon Midget.

Anderson Speedway, Anderson, Indiana July 18, 2008
The 95 degree heat found the high banks of Anderson Speedway to be a challenge for Drew and team tonight as the car was mid-pack in hot laps.  Qualifying found the hot slick track didn’t have enough grip for the setup on the Aluma Trailers, Century 21 Master Key Realty, Mid America Properties, Amsoil Yamaha Kenyon Midget tonight relegating Drew to a 6th place qualifying position. That qualifying position put Drew in the #6 place to start the heat race.  He dropped into the 5th place on lap one and the front 6 midgets played follow the leader at a fast pace for the remaining 7 laps to give Drew only his second finish out of the top two finishing positions in heat races this year.

Come feature time racing lady luck shown down on Drew with a smile as the #6 pill was drawn and Drew was lined up to start the feature on the pole.  The car was pretty fast and not really tested in the heat race because of the follow-the-leader racing fast pace of the heat race, so only minor air pressure and wedge adjustments were made to the #21 Kenyon Midget.

This didn’t prove to be enough to hold off the #84 outside front row car of Grant Galloway.  He got the run off the preferred high side and dropped in front of Drew.  For seven laps it was another follow the leader race with the #84 pulling out to a few car length advantage and the others in the front running pack left to duke it out.

On lap seven an inpatient #15 Jeff Wimmenauer tagged Drew down the back stretch sending him spinning unharmed into the infield, relegating him to the tail.  This was the same car that slammed Drew into the wall hard at New Castle Mt. Lawn Speedway only three weeks before (Jeff is a Finish Line Racing School Graduate, more is expected of him than this). Drew came back to finish 6th with a very loose race car.

The night’s racing tightened up the points race to put him back a couple markers behind the #7 Caleb Armstrong who finished 3rd.  So that’s racing, the USAC Kenyon Midget Driver Development Series gave the young drivers another example of rough driving with no penalty!  Disappointing but we will suck it up and make it a point to be faster next time so they can’t get to our back bumper!
