Drew Charlson Wins Again!! Takes Over USAC Kenyon Midget Point Lead PDF Print E-mail

The USAC racing season is now hot and heavy into the schedule with racing every Wednesday and Friday for three weeks in a row during June with a break for the 4th of July, then it all continues with more exciting racing.

Saturday June 14th at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois was Mel Kenyon night with the UMARA and USAC Midgets putting on a show in three classes, Regional/National, Ford Focus and Kenyon Series all running. The 3/8th mile Grundy County Speedway is the biggest and fastest race track the Kenyon Midgets will see all season. Again Drew was on top of the speed charts in hot laps and drew a good pill starting on the outside of the front row. Drew fell into second place at the drop of the green flag and wasted no time in putting the pressure on the lead car, finally taking it to the outside and making the pass for the lead a lap and a half later. With a pill draw of four, the feature invert put Drew on the outside of row two in his Century 21 Master Key Realty, Mid America Properties, Aluma Trailers, Amzoil, Impact Racing Yamaha Kenyon Midget. With another outside move on the first lap Drew set sail for the leader, ran him down and tried every move in the books to make a pass for the lead but the checkered flag fell too soon in the twenty lap feature and Drew had to settle for a 2nd place finish. The heat win and 2nd place feature points put Drew in the same Championship points position he started the night, in second place, just one point out of the lead as the points leader won the race.

Wednesday June 18th saw the USAC and UMARA Midgets running the same three classes at the beautiful Plymouth, Indiana Speedway. Drew wasn’t on top of the speed charts this time but another lucky pill draw found him on the outside front row for the heat race. He took two laps running the high side to take over the lead and never look back for the heat win. Again the pill draw was a 4 putting Drew in the outside second row starting position. The race got a little more difficult here as the cars quickly spread out in single file and the race was on! The setup changes Drew called for were a success and in a few laps Drew picked off the third place car, then about 10 laps later he picked off the second place car, and finally ran down the leader and on lap 28 coming off turn 4 he pulled his Kenyon Midget along side the leader and took the checkered flag a lap later for his third win just seven races into the season. The clean sweep of the nights racing gave Drew the Championship lead over second place Caleb Armstrong by 5 points.

The next race for Drew is this Friday June 20 at Anderson Speedway in Anderson Indiana, then on to Wednesday night thunder at the historic Mt. Lawn Speedway on June 25 and back to Anderson on June 27th. Drew will be appearing at the St. Marys Chrysler car show with his Dodge ARCA car on Saturday June 28th. St. Marys Chrysler is located at the intersection of US Hwy 30 and Ohio State Rout 66 in St. Marys, Ohio.
